*[REMINDER] PRESS ALERT* * *
*CWU Gauteng Shop-stewards Council * * * *24/08/2011* The Communication Workers Union (CWU) in Gauteng will host its General Shop-stewards Council for the second time in two weeks time at Booysens Centre for Learning (CFL) Telkom. The meeting is as a result of the dispute on substantive negotiations at South African Post Office (Sapo) and Telkom SA. We view this as delaying tactics by the employers to drag the process of negotiations. Both companies are sitting at CCMA on the 25th and 26th of August 2011 respectively. As CWU in Gauteng, we find what has been tabled at the negotiations by the Sapo and Telkom SA as an insult, noting that there are allegations of corruption eruption in the ICT sector in general. As Gauteng we’re calling for a total shutdown (strike) in Sapo, Telkom and subsidiaries companies of Vodacom should our demands not be met by end of this week. We include Vodacom SA subsidiary companies since there was reduction of benefits of workers as a result of outsourcing of some departments in Vodacom. Our members are ready to go on the streets and it will be one of the biggest industrial action ever experienced in the industry. We further call for immediate dismissal of the Sapo Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operational Officer (COO) following allegations of corruption. In our list we demand that SABC halt its proposed plan of offering workers voluntary Severance Packages. To us one job lost, is too many. CWU Gauteng demands that the SABC together with government must appoint a *progressive Deputy Chairperson of the SABC board*, and immediate appointment of a *full time GCEO of the SABC* to avoid any form of perceived or actual handshake. * * *The council will be blessed by the presence of the entire CWU National Office Bearers (NOB’s).* * * *Venue: Telkom CFL (Centre for learning) Booysens * *Time: 09:00am to 13h30pm* *Date: 25/08/2011* * * *All Media houses are invited to come and report.* *Contact:* *Aubrey Tshabalala, Provincial Deputy Chairperson – 0829948196* *Matankana Mothapo, National Spokesperson - 0827590900* -- You are subscribed.
