 ANC revolt over Malema Johannesburg - There is an open revolt in the ruling party over this week’s Waterloo disciplinary hearing against ANC Youth League president Julius Malema. City Press is in possession of audio material in which senior Limpopo ANC leaders aligned to Malema can be heard urging league members to revolt against the ANC leadership for bringing misconduct charges against him. An emergency meeting was held in Polokwane on Tuesday. This came as the league was making plans for a massive show of force for its president and his executive, which faces unprecedented disciplinary charges on Tuesday and Wednesday. It could be Malema’s Waterloo. “Even if we are fired tomorrow our blood will remain black, green and gold,” said the embattled youth leader on Friday night. The youth league’s plans for a massive march on Luthuli House on Tuesday were met with opposition from Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association chairperson Kebby Maphatsoe on Saturday. “We would like to plead with the youth league not to be emotional and respect ANC processes ... We will not allow anybody to threaten the ANC. If need be we will defend the ANC with our lives,” said Maphatsoe. In five provinces, urgent league council meetings are being held on Sunday to bring out a show of force onto Johannesburg’s streets on Tuesday and Wednesday. ANC Youth League structures in all provinces are mobilising their members to support those charged: Malema and his deputy Ronald Lamola; secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa and his deputy, Kenetswe Mosenogi; and treasurer Pule Mabe. Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane on Saturday said the league had not been given permission to march but thousands of members were expected to converge in the vicinity of Luthuli House from Monday night.
