Dear Young Communists And the Lord Jesus once said; “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. "These are the words that ring vividly clear in my mind these days as I often hear “through the eye on the needle” from many quotas even the rich interestingly!
Once a long time ago in my childhood as many of us, I was subjected to a Sunday school. Among the many things that we were taught was respect for others, and never to swear at adults because the bears will come out and tear us apart! Last but not least the book of Matthew 19 and verse 24 in particular. So, I don’t want to sound clergy but these are some of the basis that informs me when they look and walk through the African National Congress NWC Document entitled ‘Through the eye of Needle? Choosing the best cadres to lead transformation. The bible further goes on and say, “When his disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?" In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." Now, put simply the good book is advocating that no matter how hard you may be seen in the house of God as long as you are rich and you have not repented you shall not see the kingdom of God! Well as a kid l was not sure what the good Lord had against rich people but now I certain I do know why. A rich man would do anything to save his heart even using and abusing the temple of the Lord because they are rich and they can even afford a rented service and their wealth not tempered with! Let us now return to the ANC document; Through the eye asks the following questions bluntly; *3* How do thousands of branches throughout the country ensure that this happens in actual practice? How do we deal with individual ambition, lobbying, promotion of friends and pursuit of selfish interests? How do we ensure that electoral processes do not tear the movement apart? How do we prevent attempts to use the movement as a step-ladder towards self-enrichment? *4* Besides, the door can be left open for corrupt individuals and even enemies of change, to exploit the movement’s internal democracy to sabotage the struggle and create their own ANC. Further, those who fail in positions of authority can use all kinds of excuses to cling to power, when the time for change has come. *5* These are difficult questions. But the movement’s membership has to find the answers, so we together build and sustain the ANC as an agent for change. To fully understand this challenge, let us first examine the character of challenges in this phase of struggle. But the more telling clauses for this engagement are 9 and 10 *9* As we carry out these tasks, we will face a concerted campaign to undermine our efforts, by those who oppose change. They will underplay the progress we are making, while exaggerating weaknesses. They will seek to discredit the ANC and its leadership. They will also try to undermine confidence in the institutions of democracy we have set up. *10* Some will even try to subvert the ANC from within. Because they know they cannot defeat the ANC frontally, they will try to create an ANC that serves their interests. One felt the importance of writing these as there seems to be a generalization and a deliberate attempt by some laptop revolutionaries to mislead our people and members on the actual contents of this document. Now I believe my argument both religiously and political is not misleading structures and is based on facts. Christian or not anyone will agree. Now let me move to a more scientific point of view and argument. What are the defining characters of the African National Congress today some 62 years later since the election of comrade President James Sebe Moroka from Alfred Butini Xuma. I must indicate that when in trying times of 1952 J. S. Moroka (the preferred ANCYL candidate at the time) was convicted of "statutory communism" according to the Suppression of Communism Act<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suppression_of_Communism_Act>with other comrades. It was during the trial Moroka’s true colours came out pleaded for mitigation and rejected ANC's principles of racial equality and was soon expelled from the party. Now, throughout its existence the African National Congress has managed to preserve its tradition while adapting to the ever changing environment. It has remained a truly non-racial, non-sexist and a democratic organization to this day and shall continue to be for as long as it lives. There are no minorities in the ANC we are all equal even in these stormy times. There are certain development trends that are expressing only instability of views held by the intermediate and indefinite sections of the within the movement that seek to substitute organisational discipline and declarations for *rapprochement* with definite classes, declarations which are all the noisier, the louder the thunder of events. “At least we are like the generation of Tambo, Mandela and Sisulu”—such is the slogan of many revolutionarily minded individuals who have been caught up in the myriad of events and who have neither theoretical principles nor social roots. Let us allow the painful and necessary process to unfold and serve as a lesson and a warning to all the like and in particular the COPE that remained, a glaring example of what results from an absence of discipline, ideology and principles, which some unthinking people call it economic freedom. When it came to action, they did not reveal even a single of the three conditions essential for the elaboration of a consistent socialist programme: a clear idea of the ultimate aim; a correct understanding of the path leading to that aim; an accurate conception of the true state of affairs at the given moment or of the immediate tasks of this moment. They simply obscured the ultimate aim of socialisation by confusing grabbing of mines with bourgeois nationalisation and by confusing the working class ideas about small-scale doctrine of utopian socialism on the conversion of all means of production into public property and the organisation of socialist production albeit managed by a private firm! Their conception of the path leading to nationalisation is peerlessly characterised by their substitution of the development of co-operatives for the class struggle. In their estimation of the present stage in the national democratic revolution, they have forgotten a trifle: the remnants of serf-ownership, which weigh so heavily on our countryside. The famous trinity which reflects their theoretical views — the insults, the succession, and nationalisation — has its complement in the no less famous three-point “programme" — tenderprenuership, the bling, and attachment to the allotment. -- You are subscribed.
