Tribute to the District Secretary of Alpheus Malivha District, the late cde
Manuel “Vavi” Muswobi

I learned with sadness the untimely death of the District Secretary of Alpeus
Malivha District, cde Vavi who played an important role in building a strong
Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) in Limpopo and South Africa
generally.

As we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of South African Student Congress (SASCO),
we should also celebrate the life cde Vavi. It is within this student
organization that cde Vavi learn to unite the working class student and fight
for their plight. He joined and led SASCO as the Branch Secretary in University
of Venda (Univen) Branch and it was the time I started know and interact with
him. It is under the leadership of cde Ronald “Chairman Mao” Lamola, the late
cde Manuel “Vavi” Muswobi (Branch Chairperson and Branch Secretary
respectively) and PYA in 2002 to win Student Representative Council (SRC)
Election for the first time since 1996.

He is one of the comrades who inspired me to be in the student movement and
learn different languages as he taught me Vhenda, to enabling me to address the
Univen students in their language.

We continued to be side by side in the trenches when we both participated in
the reestablishment and relaunch of the YCLSA. He led YCLSA as the District
Secretary with discipline until his untimely death. He knew that YCLSA is the
preparatory school of South African Communist Party (SACP) and as well he was
the Marxist-leninist scholar, not a talkative person but more of a practical
person – implementer. Even during the time when he was facing charges of ill
discipline and bringing the YCLSA into disrepute he adhered to the internal
disciplinary processes of the organization and display remorse. He never
convened the press conference to threaten the organization or engage the
leadership of the organization the public domain.

He is now joining the spiritual ranks of cde Wanga Sigila, Claude Xavani,
Siphiwe Zuma, Salphy Ramalepe, and Robert Makhubela to mention the least.

You will be highly missed and remembered, May his soul rest in peace!!!

Happy 20th Anniversary of the SASCO…!

Khula UFasimba …!
