Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union Solidarity Message on the occasion of
Food and Allied Workers Union Fourth National Congress from the 05th-09th
September 2011

Another historical milestone is about to be written with the convening of the
fourth National Congress of the Food and Allied Workers Union [FAWU] Worker’s
Parliament.

And a necessary celebration must be accorded on the epoch of Workers organized
in all farming areas in particular of our country. Since its inception in 1941
FAWU has always provided a sound platform for Worker Education and a testimony
on that was/is the elevation of many respected Trade Unionists and political
figures through its structures.

POPCRU on the occasion of this Congress, as part of displaying candid respect
for principles of Worker Control, Worker Democracy, Transparency, Acountability
and of course embracing Organizational Development and Renewal, wishes FAWU
well in its endeavor to build strong and vibrant Trade Union Movement in South
Africa and throughout the whole world as a revolutionary duty to unite all
workers of the world.

A necessary struggle to be pursued beyond the Congress, is to consolidate the
heightening of COSATU engines to consolidate a struggle towards a Living Wage
Campaign against Capitalist inflicted scourge of poverty, unemployment and
slavery wages.

We must continue to fight against unpalatable conditions of farm workers, who
after 17 years of our democracy, are still subjected to slavery wages as
recently exposed again by the Human Rights Watch. Yet Capitalist continues to
line up their pockets with more profits and profits as projeced vividly by HRW,
"Ripe with Abuse" Report which says, "In 2009 the export value of wine from the
Western Cape alone was about 5.91 billion rand (US$700 million). The same year
the wine industry contributed an estimated 26,223 million rand (US$3,105
million) to South Africa’s gross domestic product, with over half of that sum
remaining in the Western Cape".

And we call on the Department of Labour to intensify investigations of these
exposee which undermines the gains of a democratic system which is highly
regarded in the global village.

POPCRU joins all COSATU Affiliates and other Progressive Forces to adjure the
Working Class to unite for a course of reversing the narrow apartheid spatial
development’s fault lines still prevalent in our communities.

Arise ye toilers of the earth….for another world is possible!

Amandla!
