*YCLSA National University Based Branch Summit *

17 September 2011

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] is holding its second
National University Based Branch Summit, in the Province of KwaZulu Natal,
Saints Hospitality centre, Durban (17 September 2011 to 18 September). The
purpose of the Summit is to interrogate the role of the Young Communist
League in higher education and training, develop a comprehensive program of
action to be undertaken by our branches in Higher education. As YCLSA we
have over years noted challenges that engulf Higher education and training,
we are convinced that while the department has done a lot of work in
transforming this sector, more still needs to be done to ensure that there
is speedy transformation in higher education.

We are of the view that our government can provide free education to the
sons and daughters of the working class if it can reconfigure its spending
priorities. As YCLSA we vow to fight with all means at our disposal to
ensure that we realise free education in our life time. We also commit
ourselves to fight for the curriculum change in our country.

We have noted over the years the bitter struggle between the progressive
youth formations (YCLSA, SASCO and ANCYL) on SRC elections. We are of the
view that this in itself constitutes an impediment to the cause of
transforming our education system. As a result of these and many other
challenges the second plenary session of the third National Congress
committee resolved to convene a summit which shall pave a way forward on all
these and many other challenges

By the end of the summit we want our branches to mobilise students to ensure
that financial aid offices implement government commitments, that they
engage NSDS III, promote skills development initiatives for youth in
communities, intensify campaign for full implementation of free education
within a shortest interval, launch a focused campaign against corruption on
our universities.

The declaration of the summit will be availed for media our membership and
our constituencies.
