Cape: Archbishop Tutu and the Dalai Lama
SACP * Western Cape SACP Media Statement, 6 October 2011* *Archbishop Tutu and the Dalai Lama* The SACP in the Western Cape finds statement made by the man of the cloth and the calibre of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Mpilo Tutu regrettable and unfortunate. We are aware that this hatred by the Archbishop of anything related with China is because of his anti-communist stance. We find it insulting and frivolous to the working class and the poor who voted for the ANC government that an individual whether how religious and converted is, that he can stand up and attack the ANC and its government with no sound and sober reasoning, even when his friend has voluntarily cancelled his visit to South Africa, reasons unknown to us by the way, in 2009 general elections he called upon people not to vote. We find this as the continuation of the battle by the neo-liberal and anti- majoritarian forces. To say the ANC government is worse than the apartheid government because at "least it was expected from it" and that he will pray for the downfall of the democratically elected government, leaves us with no option but to doubt that he might have voted for the ANC government, in any way he is the one who questioned the bona fides of comrade Zuma to be the president of the Republic of South Africa. We find these innuendos and utterances by the Archbishop to be "un-Godly" and we find this as the declaration of cold war with the government that was elected by the overwhelming majority of South Africans, especially the working class and the poor. It is disingenuous of the Archbishop, instead of celebrating his birthday; he decides to grandstand with his veil attack to the ANC government. Recently, elite birthdays are used as the launching pad to attack the ANC government led by the President Zuma, not so long ago it was Dikgang Moseneke who attacked the ANC in his lavish birthday. The working class and the poor will defend this government, as it is through the ANC led government that we have seen material improvement on their lives through amongst others, basic services, legislations that are friendly to the workers and the poor etc, even though we admit that there are challenges but not to an extent of praying for the downfall of the ANC government. It's only those hidden supporters of apartheid regime, who supported colonialism of special type that dance in tune of Dalai Lama. The Archbishop must find an alternative way to support his Tibetan agenda not through politicizing his birthday. He knows very well that China is a sovereign state it will decide about its own plight through its own people, whole scheme smacks of hypocrisy and must be condemned. If he feels his rights are trampled or undermined, just like any other right wing element who usescourts to undermine our democracy he use exercise his constitutional rights. We are neither surprised nor shocked with his prophesy of doom for ANC led government to collapse like Libya and Egypt, this has been the chorus that we have been daily sung by the DA and right-wing formations. *_Contact_:* *SACP Provincial Secretary* *Khaya Magaxa* *083 721 0221* *0741 643 191* -- You are subscribed.
