Suffocating the truth about the CUBAN FIVE is deplorable! The CUBAN FIVE Campaign has awesomely re-kindled the importance as a nation to question what the enemy of the masses is. Is it wars? Is it genocides? Is it dictatorship by a few? Is it a capitalist system? And a Chinese idiom has tried to narrow the search for answers when it illustrated that, ‘If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose. If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself’. And in the case of CUBA we know that as per this saying which alludes a fact that ‘If you know both yourself and your enemy, you can win numerous (literally, 'a hundred') battles without jeopardy’. COSATU 10th National Congress at Midrand declared, amongst others, that ‘we recommit to build a global movement for change, including through the World Social Forums….the continuing blockade against Cuba, as well as the murder of Trade Unionist in Mexico, and the military junta in Burma which continues to hold power illegally, must be challenged. And we further‘resolved on a programme of International Solidarity and building a Global Social Justice Movement’. Certainly, out of the CUBAN FIVE Saga, all citizens of the world now knows, it was a well orchestrated agenda to drive a wedge amongst all nation, unenviable intentions to disadvantage with nations of the world to free associate with the CUBAN masses. And such sayings may be equated with a commonly used expression about US government burning bridges of ‘moral compass’ in the manner they are handling the CUBAN Five impasse. But many are silent to point at such inconsistencies! This development has thrown in the deep a public discourse on a more ‘vigilant’ demand for a ‘proletariat democracy’ as compared to ‘bourgeoisie democracy’. Why US system is hailed as a ‘super-system’ of democracy, yet it still fails to pass a ‘motion’ in their parliament to discard the blockade and/or the unpleasant incarceration. The question which preoccupies our minds is which is the best or better democracy around the whole world? It is clear that these shenanigans are purely a challenge by the West to dismantle the Cuban socialist system, which has never disappointed its citizens. CUBA boost one of the over-educated people in the whole world, with illiteracy very low because of the emphasis on free education; with a reliable child feeding system based on subsidy mothers of children between 0-5 years with powdered milk to eradicate child mortality; with low level of affordability on basic commodities and encouraging of citizens to spent what they have. A typical example is the introduction of a switch of lights, to save on petrol used to generate electricity! As part of the working class, we must maximize the ‘zing’ unleashed by progressive forces in South Africa in the current conjuncture, to demand the freeing of these five men and reach high resolves to sustain the perennial visitation to the US Embassy for the Cuban’s sake. POPCRU supports the unconditional release of the CUBAN FIVE, to realize the Federation’s Declaration which we maintain is implementable now and not later!
