The ANCYL has demanded the implementation of a 30% quota for youth companies in
provincial government procurement so as to create jobs.

Addressing the media, the league said it was embarking on “mass action” for the
economic empowerment of young people in the province.

It said it had noted the disturbing way in which youth were left out of
government service delivery processes.

“Government has failed to appreciate that young people are the most affected by
unemployment and need interventions like the allocation of procurement quotas
and the implementation of the national youth service, which will equip them
with skills,” said the league’s provincial secretary, Lebohang Mogwera.

He said the youth service had, so far, only been implemented by three
departments and none of 24 municipalities in the province.

Mogwera called for resources to be allocated to the National Youth Development
Agency (NYDA) to conduct research on the status of youth development in the
province. He also called for the enforcement of internships for youths in the
private sector.

The league said all these demands would be formally submitted to Premier Ace
Magashule during a protest march scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Speaking on next year’s ANC leadership conference, provincial chairperson
Khotso Morapela said: “We can assure you we will stand behind any leader who
supports our fight for economic freedom in our lifetime.”
