** ** *ANCWL GAUTENG PROVINCE ON 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM*
** *28 November 2011* *[image: ancwl]* *ANC WOMEN’S LEAGUE (Gauteng)* ** The ANC Women’s league in the province of Gauteng supports the 16 days of activism which started on the 25th of November 2011. This campaign remains a pivotal one in creating awareness on the social ills and economic disparities still confronted by women. Women in society still remain marginalised and oppressed despite the many government interventions including legislative measures. **** The South African Police service issued statistics indicating a reduction in crime but violence against women and children remain high. We urge women in our society to stand up against such injustices and speak out. There have been numerous reported cases of women being victims of murder or violence by their partners, this should be condemned by society, but moreover women should not stay in unhealthy relationships due to socio-economic conditions. **** Children have a right to safety and protection as per our constitution, this however remains a myth for many children in poverty stricken communities. Parents, guardians and all community members have a fundamental responsibility to protect our children. These days with technological advancement and access to social networks paedophiles are targeting children through these sites. We urge parents to be hands on and take ownership in control access to such networks for the safety of our children **** *Economic emancipation* ** Women are still subjected to triple oppression and still remain exploited even in areas of work. There are men who still demand sexual favours from women in order for them to move up the corporate ladder or get into business. We call upon law enforcement agencies o deal harshly with such unbecoming tendencies which seek to undermine the ability of women in the economic mainstream. **** As the ANCWL league we support the 16 days of activism and call upon our structures to use this opportunity to create awareness around the social injustices which still confront millions of South African women in our communities **** *“ACT WHEN YOU SEE ANY ACT OF ABUSE” * * * *Issued by the ANCWL (Gauteng Province)* *For any media queries* *Contact * *Nomantu Ralehoko* *0795279392 * ** ** ------------------------------ * Note:* This message is for the named person's use only.
