Media Statement

POPCRU on World Aids Day
POPCRU has welcomed the marking of the World Aids Day in which all nations
re-fashion their commitment to eradicate the enormous impact of the pandemic on
human lives in general and also undermining of human health.

We have noted the release of the 2010 National Ante-natal Sentinel HIV and
Syphilis prevalence Survey in the country and we are content that we can
conquer this scourge through solidified behavior and also being responsible for
our sexuality.

And we have embraced this year’s Theme ‘South Africa is taking responsibility
on a Path to Eliminating the TB and HIV Epidemics’.

POPCRU is appalled by the Western Cape government which has recently cheapened
the campaign by offering monetary incentives for all who are testing and this
may unleash unnecessary marches across the country with all testing persons
demanding what is done in the Western Cape.

We wish to reiterate the fact espoused by the Minister of Health, Dr. Aaron
Motsoaledi that ‘HIV is a gender-based disease that is spread by men and
suffered by women’.

POPCRU calls all South Africans in general and its members in particular to
reengineer their outlook on their health matters to enhance their life
expectancy.

Having a healthy society starts with you!
