*Statement on the release of matric results for 2011 * The Young Communist League of South Africa (Ufasimba), Eastern Province note and welcome the matric results of 2011 as announced by the MEC for Education and Training in the Eastern Cape Cde Mandla Makupula. We congratulate the learners who has passed grade 12 and we salute the class of 2011. We also want to salute teachers, Unions, Alliance in the province and the people of Eastern Cape for a sterling work done in the Province to safeguard the future of the working class background learners in the province against all the challenges that confronted the department of education on 2011. These results provide scientific evidence on political and historical challenges facing the department of education in the province. The results of Eastern Cape is at 58.1 % in 2011 as compared to 58,5% of 2010 , while sadning in that it has scored 0.2 % decline but it also demonstrate stability of the system against the overwhelming challenges confronting Eastern Cape which include learners still going to school with empty stomach , few laboratories and infrastructural challenges. The results also expose that little or no tempering has been done in altering decades of systematic marginalisation by apartheid capitalism. It’s shocking that patterns of massive investments are still following energy mining complex of apartheid economy hence Gauteng and Western Cape in real terms will continue to celebrate with little dismantling of marginalisation of Eastern Cape in terms of investment. We also salute the MEC of Education, Cde Mandla Makupula and the Head of Department, Adv. Modidima Mannya for remaining focussed during the difficult times the department was experiencing severe challenges. We want both the MEC and the Head to address the following issues as part of stabilising the department: · Decisively deal with corrupt officials in the department. · Delivery of LTSM to schools on time. · Speedily address issues of wrong promotion of learners. · Address issues of quintile contestations. · Decisively deal with officials that do not do their work. As the Young Communist League, we commit to work with the department of education as education is a societal matter and critical for the development of the province. It is equal disappointing for organisation or individual leader to grand stand and blames these teething problems on one individual such is utter historical, undialetic and it’s purely opportunistic and outrageous.
