Media Release 11th January 2012 POPCRU mourns the passing on of Cde Luyanda Mzini POPCRU has learned with shock the news of the passing on of a Uitenhage Local Secretary, Cde Luyanda Mzini, who has served the organization with great aplomb since 1998 serving as a Shop Steward during the times of Branches within Provinces and in Eastern Cape in particular. Cde Mzini was one of the comrades within POPCRU who understood the responsibilities and good attributes of a Shop Steward and sought to represent the membership with the necessary zeal un-equaled. He understood that the Trade Union Movement was important to advance the attainment of a National Democratic Society and worked within the structures to practicalize that vision. He is one of the 200 members who were dismissed unfairly in the Department of Correctional Service’s Middledrift Management Area during the organisation’s Anti-rank Insignia Defiance Campaign while the former Department of Correctional Services like Ngconde Balfour and Linda Mti were ruling the correctional services by an iron fist. And, he remained focused to deliver the mandate of workers at any given platform. His loyalty, commitment and diligence to the realisation of the working class hegemony could further be witnessed by the fact that he has never missed National Constitutional meetings like Central Executive Committee and National Congresses since the time of the branches, before the organisational renewal that resolved on the establishment of new demarcations of Locals. During the time of his passing on he was serving as the Local Secretary for Uitenhage. And he will solely be missed by his colleagues, members at large and workers in general for his revolutionary collegiality. Cde Mzini passed on the 01st of January 2012 after a short illness. He was reliable leader, a astute Shop Steward, a Worker and a Worker’s Advocate. May his soul rest in peace!
