February 22, 2012 *YOUNG COMMUNIST LEAGUE CONDEMNS THE MALICIOUS REPORTING OF THE SOWETAN ARTICLE * The Young Communist League of South Africa [Ufasimba] notes the article by the Sowetan newspaper titled ‘ANCYL turmoil opens way for the young Reds.’ The subtle message being sent by this article is that there is adversarial competition between the ANC Youth League and the YCLSA by using selective quotes from our Press Statement of the February 19, 2012. We strongly believe that disciplining certain individuals within the movement will not mark the rise of discipline, unity and transformation in the lives of youth; but that a lot more needs to be done in order to ensure that all these are done. This includes massive political education to rid the movement of the rot of corruption, vote rigging, buying of branches and exclusion of those we disagree with and general undermining of the cultures and traditions of our movement. We may not at all times agree with the ANC Youth League, but our alliance should be intended to deal with the challenges of youth unemployment, poverty and deepening inequalities. These relations are not the dictates of individuals, but are founded on the basis of a political programme. The National Lekgotla agreed on an urgent Progressive Youth Alliance that will iron out these basic issues.
