Aunty Mary was a passionate and solid member of the ANC and a hard working trade union organizer in the Garment Industry in the East Rand. Despite having been deprived from completing her formal education, she was an all round political educator, teaching cadres of the movement about history of the struggle and addressing meetings in the Western Cape. **** ** ** Aunty Mary Moodley was a formal “groomer” of several struggle heroes in her humble dwelling when these meetings were successfully disguised as township stokvels. Her fellow comrades included Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, the Cachalias and sustained close links with Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu and a confidant to Cde O.R Tambo.
