/Gert Sibande District /// *Recalling of the Mayor, and ANC Centenary Celebrations*The South African Communist Party in Gert Sibande District has learnt from media reports that the District Executive Mayor Kgotso Motloung was recalled on 14 March 2012.
The SACP is still not in a position to comment on the merits of the decision as it has not, after numerous attempts, received a briefing from the ANC in the Region on how it was able to reach this decision unilaterally. The SACP views this episode as further evidence of the degeneration of Alliance relations in the District. This also follows numerous actions that have sought to undermine the existence of the alliance and a show of complete disrespect of the role and contribution of respective components.
The ANC Gert Sibande Region will be hosting the centenary torch from 25-31 March. To us it symbolizes a significant period for alliance components to respect and value each other's contribution towards our history and the role that we still have to play in ensuring that we eradicate poverty and reduce the high levels of unemployment that exist within the district.
As the SACP we wish the ANC in the Region well as it starts its centenary celebrations.
We remain committed to a programmatic Alliance. Importantly, this Alliance must be based on mutual respect and ongoing consultation.
We will continue seeking an audience between the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC and the District Executive Committee of the SACP to attend to these issues.
