NEHAWU
*NEHAWU Mpumalanga Statement, 16 April 2012*
*On the ANC Provincial Conference*
NEHAWU, the second biggest affiliate of COSATU in Mpumalanga province
with more than 25000 strong membership sends its congratulations to the
African National Congress{ANC} in Mpumalanga on hosting a successful
11th Provincial Conference held on 5 -- 8 April at Mbombela stadium. We
welcome the progressive outcomes produced by conference in the form of
resolutions and the elected leadership. We are inspired by the
commitment to build and harness the unity of the Tripartite Alliance and
the entire congress movement.
The success of the conference proved the counter revolutionaries and the
prophets of doom wrong once again as they had predicted a chaotic
conference as articulated in different newspaper articles and the
electronic media in the lead up to this conference. In that context we
wish to dispel with the contempt it deserves all the rumours and
comments doing rounds in the media that the conference was marred by
corruption in the election of leadership.
Consistent with rule 5.1 of the ANC Constitution (amended at the 52nd
National Conference) all members have a right to take part in elections
and be elected or appointed to any committee, structure, commission or
delegation of the ANC. The 11th Mpumalanga provincial conference of the
ANC provided such space to all its members to nominate and be nominated
for election to the provincial executive committee {PEC}.
To that end we salute the leadership collective led by the provincial
chairperson Cde DD Mabuza. The membership has shown confidence in them
and we hope the leadership fully grasps the overall implication of such
overwhelming confidence by structures of the ANC. As contextualized by
the ANC's 1st National General Council held in 2000 in Port Elizabeth, a
"People's Revolutionary Movement for Transformation, An Agent for
Change", Indeed working side by side with our people, this change will
be a reality.
As a union and in our individual capacity as members of the ANC, we
reaffirm our unwavering support and commitment to work tirelessly under
the guidance of the leadership in deepening and defending the National
Democratic Revolution and thus improve the lives of our people.
