*Helen and Vavi, sitting in a tree ... f-i-g-h-t-i-n-g* *Hogarth, Sunday Times, Johannesburg, 6 May 2012 *COSATU'S general secretary has been living with a secret: he thinks he has a stalker.
After almost two years of suffering, Zwelinzima Vavi finally broke his silence this week and revealed to Hogarth how a chance meeting at a 2010 soccer World Cup game resulted in late-night SMSes from DA leader and Western Cape premier Helen Zille.
According to him, Zille would SMS him to talk about how perfect and powerful the two of them could be together, and she would encourage Vavi to dump his polygamous marriage to President Jacob Zuma's ANC and the SACP.
But Vavi would rather stay in an abusive relationship with Zuma than move in with Zille, so he has repeatedly turned down her advances.
Zille is not taking the rejection well. The love and admiration for Vavi have now turned to passionate hatred. Not only is she accusing him of being a two-faced and power-hungry unionist, but she is now planning a protest march to Cosatu House.
Vavi's response? "Now that she has failed to get a meeting, she develops an intense hatred for me [and] Cosatu, like a jilted boy-friend."
