SACP Press Statement May 15, 2012 BITTER HELEN ZILLE’S TRIED TO STORM COSATU HOUSE –IS HYPOCRITICAL The South African Communist Party sees Helen Zille’s intended march on the Head Quarters of COSATU as opportunism and double standards, but even more significant as a sign that DA has gained enough confidence to finally unmask its disguise about whose interest ultimately it exists to serve. In the past the DA has denied that it is a proxy representative of big business, a face of the atrocious capitalist system of oppression and exploitation responsible retrenchment and casualisation of workers. In an effort to mislead South Africans DA has sought to present itself as a party that cares for the poor whereas in reality it favours policies that create poverty and inequality in society. The SACP has continuously warned the masses that DA is a wolf in a sheep’s skin, a party that pretends to love black people while behind the scenes propagates for polices that favours the rich at the expense of the poor. For example DA has for many years supported calls for relaxation of our labour laws under disguise of competitiveness and lowering of the cost of doing business. This has resulted in erosion of job security of the working class, widened gap between the highest paid and the lowest paid workers. The DA is also the principal supporter of labour broking, a modern day slavery which ensures 50% of worker’s salaries get stolen by the capitalist beasts. The opportunistic march on COSATU about youth wage subsidy is yet another example of DA zealousness to serve its masters, South Africa’s monopoly capital. COSATU has correctly cautioned against turning youth wage subsidy into a dangerous monster of super exploitation of the youth by greedy bosses who may see this as an opportunity increase production figures at low cost. Child labour and slave wages has become common feature in many developing economies around the world; COSATU says the youth wage subsidy must not be used as a tool for capital to accumulate wealth at the expense of the poor. The SACP believes solution to youth unemployment does not lie on the neo –liberal free market economy based on lowering the cost of doing business through labour broking and retrenchments but lies on comprehensive industrial strategy. The primary orientation and purpose such of industrial strategy must be to protect the jobs of the most vulnerable workers and to (re)skill South Africa’s working class, with the objective of reshaping South Africa’s workplace. DA’s planned march is nothing else but a farce, an irresponsible attempt to hijack youth wage subsidy into slave wages, in the process helping her atrocious capitalist’s bosses to rake in massive profits. The SACP sends a stern warning to DA, never to take our people for granted, attempts by DA to perpetuate oppression and exploitation will not be tolerated. Deadlock around youth subsidy proposal arises from the greediness on the part of the bosses supported by Helen Zille who have seen a weakness on it to exploit, hence they want it implemented immediately with its glaring errors and dangers to the working class.
