*YCL congratulates Cde Mduduzi Manana.*

The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) would like to
congratulate the newly appointed Ministers and Deputy Ministers as a result
of the reshuffle by President Jacob Zuma. The YCLSA particularly extends
its congratulations to Cde Ben Martins, a member of the Central Committee
and Politburo of the SACP. We hope that his appointment will strengthen the
Alliance programme on building infrastructure for a reliable, affordable,
safe and integrated public transport system.

We hope the new leadership in transport will swiftly resolve the e-tolling
crises in Gauteng in the interest of our people.

The YCL further welcomes the strengthening of the Public Works Ministry
with two incorruptible communist (who are members of the ANC in their own
right) whose energies will focus our resolve in transforming public works.

We see public works as a lead Ministry in creating massive jobs for our
youth through maintenance of public buildings, construction of roads, the
reopening of public works workshops and many other interventions.

The YCL would also like to extend our congratulations to the newly
appointed Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Cde Comfort
Mduduzi Manana, a distinguished youth activist and leader of our ally, the
ANCYL and a former chairperson of a YCL branch in the Gert Sibande District
in the Mpumalanga Province. All progressive youth formations should join
hands in welcoming this appointment by the state president.

As the YCL we view this appointment by our President as a motion of
confidence of youth leadership. We are convinced that Cde Manana will be
very instrumental in transforming the face of higher education in South
Africa working hand in hand with Minister Blade Nzimande. We are confident
that they will address many of the issues that are currently facing the
higher education and training sector.

The YCL feels that the following issues should be dealt with as a matter of
urgency:

* the introduction of a centralised application system, to deal with the
issue of intake, access and to avoid the repeat of the horrible scenes we
witnessed at the University of Johannesburg early this year
* the standardization of fees across the all our universities.
* building more FET colleges in all districts of our country

We are saddened by the innuendos and naivety expressed by the South African
Students Congress (SASCO) in their statement released yesterday. We are of
the view that their attack on Cde Manana is uncalled for and misplaced. Our
colleagues fail to justify why they feel that Cde Manana will be a
"liability" in transforming higher education and training.

To suggest that some Ministries are more important than others is way out
of order. All ministries are equally important and there are no Mickey
Mouse ones. We have faith in President Zuma's wisdom and feel that he has
made the right appointment.
