Press statement for immediate release

Delay on the delivery of textbooks in Limpopo schools.

Transversely in the Limpopo Public Schools there is generally lack of learner
support material toward this end, as a result we grasp no faith that our
learners will make it towards the third term with successes.

The lack of learner support materials particularly textbooks comes with a lot
of misfortunes to learners in grade 11 and 12, for the reason that entry to the
institutions of higher learning is determined by the learner performance on
this term in school calendar.

The ANCYL Limpopo is convinced that the clause within the Freedom Charter, that
“THE DOORS OF LEARNING AND OF CULTURE SHALL BE OPENED” is not finding the
middle ground, and our view on the matter is that if these tendencies continues
to occur, we must admit defeat on having a South Africa that’s illiterate free,
with slightest majority of citizens having employment and shelter as envisioned
within the Vision 2030 plan.

Such a society cannot be advanced through these failures to provide adequate
education materials and developing the education system, in view of the fact
that education is in the heart in the creation of any better livelihood.

Unfailing to the above observations, we demand that all learners be given the
obligatory pass as the situation is stimulated by the government itself and
this cannot be left to be unclothed to learners, and that recovery plans during
the remaining school holidays of this year be developed.

We further urge the National Government to repeal the imposition of Section
100(b) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, because the
intervention has brought nothing but shame and derision to the people of
Limpopo, as service delivery and pass rates will severely drop this year.

In an event of developing the recovery plan, we are supporting the call by the
South African Democratic Teachers Union in Limpopo and other affected unions on
their demand for remuneration as concocting the recovery plan will mean that
there will not be resting on the part of teachers this year.

Awakened by these frustrations, we urge the Department of Education to learn
from this year‘s encounters and ensure that stationery for next year are
delivered before the end of November, such that in the opening of schools next
year, both parents, teachers and learners do not find themselves frustrated.
