Government Minister, Carlos Romero, appeared at Bolivia TV to express his gladness about the agreements and the restoration of full normalcy in the Bolivian police force, as he instructed them in their law enforcement functions.
Low-ranking police officers started the mutiny since last Thursday when a group of them, with balaclavas, took the Police Operations Tactical Unit with the intention of forcing the government to increase their wages to equal the salary of the military, as well as abolish the Law 101 of Disciplinary Regime.
Romero acknowledged that the material conditions of work of the institution were not the best, despite having reached levels of salary increases, in recent years, with no parallel with the efforts of previous governments to President Evo Morales, to favour police officers and sergeants.
The agreements provide, among other issues, that the national government will not present any legal or administrative action against participants in the demonstrations and the analysis for the amendment of Law 101 of Disciplinary Regime.
The parties agreed to continue working together to improve the institutional conditions of the Bolivian police in the near future.
