*Statement of the South African Communist Party, Moses Mabhida Province, 25 June 2012*
*Outcome of Provincial Council * /22-24 June 2012, Asherville, Durban/The South African Communist Party in Moses Mabhida Province (Kwazulu Natal) held its Provincial Council on 22nd to 24th June 2012 at Asherville in Durban. The council was attended by more than 300 delegates from more than 290 branches across the province of Kwazulu Natal. Delegates from Alliance Partners were also in attendance. The Provincial Council covered a range of issues; the preparation for our forthcoming National Congress, the policy conference of the ANC which is starting tomorrow, the charging and appearance in court of the Cato Manor Police, and international political developments.
The Council affirmed that the SACP National Congress comes at a time when the Party is united more than ever before. This healthy atmosphere will help the congress to focus on the programmes that address the plight of the working class in our country and the world over. The council voiced its concern about the resuscitation of the mentality of the apartheid regime which considered the Liberation Movement as a terrorist organization that needs to be fought from all fronts. This mentality is what informs the current anti-majoritarian liberal offensive that is being waged against the ANC, SACP, COSATU, and the Government. The delegates affirmed the belief of the existence of the ideological third force in operation that is all out to cause instability in the Alliance, particularly the ANC and the government. This has caused the media to defocus from societal issues and have been turned into a billboard for attack on the government and the ANC and the alliance as a whole. This calls for the closing of the ranks by the alliance partners and the ANC in particular. Those inside our ranks who are seen to be assisting this agenda must be identified, isolated and cleaned.
The PC confirmed the confidence on the current leadership of the SACP as lead by the current General Secretary Cde Blade Nzimande. The delegates condemned the recycled attack on our General Secretary by spreading lies that he was once an IFP member. This attack is seen as unANC, tribalistic, discriminatory and divisive within the movement. However, former members of the IFP, like any other members of organization outside the ANC and SACP are warmly welcomed in our movement and have rights to grow within the structures of our organisations like any other member. However, we are happy that such lies have been even rejected by the IFP.
The council also briefly debated the policy documents of the ANC particularly the document on strategy and tactics and the one pertaining to economy. The council concluded that coining the strategy and tactics document as Second Transition may be problematic and misleading but it is a good document to engage and stimulate debate. On the economic document the council felt that there are a lot of positives that must be appreciated particularly the realization of the necessity of state intervention on the economy. The approach on the question on mining provides a lot of logic as opposed to the blanket nationalization which is considered as similar to nationalization of debt.
However we were deeply disturbed by the comments by the Deputy President of the ANC when he delivered the Harold Wolpe memorial Lecture at Lilie's farm. He clearly showed that he is uncomfortable with the Alliance and with the SACP in particular. The alliance of the SACP and the ANC does not depend on the SACP providing political education to the ANC. We are not privy to any knowledge of a contract to provide political education to the ANC which contract we are alleged to have breached.
The Council also applauded the police on the work done to bring the Cato Manor unit to court. The SACP has always been worried and uncomfortable with the so called successes of this unit. We also believe the recent reports on the developments in further investigations will help to solve the puzzle behind the killings of the Regional Secretary of the ANC of EThekwini Region Cde Sbu Sibiya, the assassinations of taxi owner Mkhize, killings in Welberdatch and the mysterious killings of both Zondo and Chonco who were policemen. The council was however disturbed by the placard-wielding demonstrators outside the court in support of the accused. We strongly believe what motivated those demonstrators was sheer racism that mass killings of black people is correct because blacks are criminals who do not deserve justice. The council resolved to urge the government not to allow police to behave and act like criminals.
In conclusion the council raised its disapproval of the actions by the imperialist forces in Syria lead by America. We now know who is arming the terrorist in Syria who massacred innocent civilians in Houlla and Homs. The SACP is very worried by the increase militarization of the international relations lead by America. America is even deploying drones all over America turning that country into a police state. The council calls upon people of Europe to continue with their struggle against austerity measures which is tantamount to mortgaging their countries.
