It is sad that since the expulsion of one & suspension of other ANCYL leaders
they have assumed the role of public critics of President Jacob Zuma in rallies
that are called to cause divisions and disunity in the ranks of the ANC. I have
personally noted the remarks attributed to Julius Malema, Sindiso Magaqa and
Floyd Shivambu regarding the president of the ANC by he media. First many of us
had been in the structures of the ANC, SACP and COSATU and equally worked with
the structures of the ANCYL when a call for change was made and Jacob Zuma was
chosen as a successor to Cde Thabo Mbeki. We, together with those leaders of
the ANCYL who today call all our thoughts mistakes, called for the election of
the current NEC of the ANC. We must further note the roles of the NEC of the
ANC and link these roles to the decisions adopted by that structure before we
opportunistically attribute such decisions to individuals. One mistake that we
always committed was to
blame individuals for the decisions adopted by the structures, and in the same
vein we must articulate principles in a consistent manner. Throughout the
disciplinary processes of the leaders of the ANCYL a call was made for
consistency of principles, we listened to arguments that the leadership of the
ANC must observe such a principle and that the leaders of the youth league were
not supposed to be charged for articulating positions adopted by the structures
of the league and some of us agreed with that principle, but today we hear
those we supported in hat principle turning against the same principle. I know
some comrades will feel that I'm naive but another reality or fact is that when
Cde Thabo Mbeki fire the then Deputy President of the country and current
president, we felt and cried that the state machiney was used to deal with
comrades, we lobbied and voted for president Zuma as part of a collective. At
the time of his sacking we outspokenly
supported the establishment of the friends of Jacob Zuma to support him in
what we considered an attack, we even listened to those who were part of the
ANC NEC speaking loudly about those issues. We therefore cannot today blame
Thabo Mbeki, Jacob Zuma and exclude the structures to which they belong...
