Communist University

*There has to be another way*

Several things have happened that lead me to think that there could be a better way of dealing with news on the Communist University and its several related forums, including the YCLSA Discussion Forum.

Some of these are:

 * The paywalls that are going up around news web-sites

 * Serious distortion of news production in South Africa in the service
   of the oppositionist agenda

 * Shortage of time and competing priorities in political education

The way we have been working for several years on the CU is by putting up articles in full, with as much identification to the source as possible (e.g. Logo; By-line, Link where available).

The general intention with the CU is to start discussions. This applies to the course material (straw-coloured background; "COURSE" in the subject-line) as well as the topical material, distinguished by logos et cetera, as described in the previous paragraph.

Both these forms of posting can continue, and especially if other comrades than myself do more posting of public releases and journalism.

There are days, like yesterday, when there is hardly time for your VC to do anything else other than posting. It is essential for us communists to keep up with our reading. But the business of re-formatting and posting to several groups has to be cut down.

Therefore I am going to try something new. I will write a sentence or two about a story, put a link, draw a line, and go to another story. Every so often, maybe once or twice a day, I will post the whole lot together.

I will call it *"Abstract and Concrete"*.

Its purpose will be to prompt discussion.

Please assist to make it a success.
