*Premier Helen Zille fails to honour her promises to the youth *
* *
The South African Youth Council would like to appreciate the support
towards the march by young people from various organisations, South African
NGO Coalition Western Cape (SANGOCO), Proudly Mannenberg, Young Communist
League of South Africa (YCLSA), Congress of South Africa Students (COSAS),
African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL), South African Democratic
Teachers Union(SADTU), African National Congress(ANC), South African Youth
in Action and members from various communities in the Western Cape who
dared the rainy weather to gather today and march in demand for Jobs for
young people and also against the closure of schools in our areas.

The South African Youth Council is yet again taken aback, disturbed,
flabbergasted, dismayed and disappointed at Premier Helen Zille’s failure
to avail herself as an accounting officer elected by the people in the
Western Cape. This is despite several e-mails which we have sent to her and
her principled agreement to accept our memorandum this has vindicated us as
we had said before that the premier does not prioritise youth in this
province despite the crisis of unemployment amongst youth.
The people of the Western Cape and young people in majority had never voted
for staff members but rather for politicians we therefore refuse for young
people’s demands to be reduced by sending staff members, we had expected
that she would at least send an MEC to receive our memorandum. The South
African Youth Council will from next week start with the process of
consultation with our member organisations to decide on the next course of
action to also seek advice on the recourse regarding the issues we want her
office to address; we won’t back off until such time our concerns are
addressed.
