*Malema ally Lungisa ousted from agency* *Setumo Stone, Business Day, Johannesburg, 3 August 2012*ANDILE Lungisa has lost his bid to retain his position as chairman or be a board member of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Mmamoloko Kubayi, co-chairwoman of the parliamentary ad hoc committee given the task of selecting the new board, said yesterday.
The committee on Wednesday recommended seven candidates to make up the new board, following interviews. Mr Lungisa, who is an ally of Julius Malema, was unsuccessful in the interviews.
Ms Kubayi is also the acting provincial secretary of the ANC Youth League in Gauteng, which was the only league provincial structure to accept Mr Malema's expulsion.
The selection committee was constituted from about 15 MPs, with four from the opposition and the rest from the ANC.
The recommended list of seven candidates includes ANC Youth League national executive committee member Maropene Ntuli and Young Communist League chairman Yershen Pillay.
Others are the ANC North West spokesman and provincial executive committee member Kenny Morolong; former South African Students Congress president Mothupi Modiba; Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade deputy national chairwoman Zandile Majozi; the head of marketing at Xhosa radio station Umhlobo Wenene, Ayanda Bambiso; and the deputy secretary-general of Disabled SA, Nyalleng Potloane.
It is understood that the committee had been open about its preference for more women to be on the board. Out of the seven candidates, four are female.
Sources said this places Ms Ntuli in a good position to be appointed chairwoman, when Mr Zuma makes the announcement after the Parliamentary process is concluded. However, Mr Pillay also stands a good chance as he has served on the previous board, as deputy chairman.
On Tuesday next week, Ms Kubayi will present the committee's report on the interviews to the National Assembly. Her colleague, Collin Maine, will present the report to the National Council of Provinces the following week.
