YCLSA PRESS STATEMENT August 10, 2012
YCL APPLAUDS ARREST OF SUSPECT OF THE TEXBOOK DUMPING SCANDAL The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] applauds the South African Police Services [SAPS] for arresting a second suspect in connection with dumping of books in Limpopo. We appreciate the swiftness in ensuring that those who are responsible for these hideous crimes. We hope that the arrest of the second suspect will shed some light on the reasons why the books were dumped while schools kids desperately need them. The suspect who is an agent of Shutter and Shooters Publishers must reveal to the authorities how they operate and their relationship with the Limpopo provincial department official who was arrested last month for the same crime. As the YCL we appeal to the SAPS to continue to investigate the motive for these crimes and more culprits must be brought to book. We call for the establishment of a state owned publishing company to avoid such occurrences and to stop publishing companies from making a killing from government and transform the publishing industry which is still the same that was operated by the National Party during the apartheid regime. This further strengthens our call for the abolishing of the tender system. The system breeds corruption and ill tendencies that do not serve the working class and the poor. The state must build its capacity to publish and deliver goods as opposed to giving the tasks to corrupt individuals and companies who have absolutely no best interest of the country at heart but to line their pockets.
