There is an article in today's Mail and Guardian that is headed:

"Gunning for Vavi: Zuma's allies in Cosatu want him out"

It's full of lies.

I don't like repeating lies, so I will not post the article.

One of the lies in the article is that "South African Municipal Workers' Union general secretary Mthandeki Nhlapo" is a "supporter" of Vavi.

The General Secretary of SAMWU is not Mthandeki Nhlapo. CU subscribers know that the GS of SAMWU is Walter Theledi. Why don't the Mail and Guardian reporters know it?

Another lie is that "SACP leaders also lobbied to have Vavi's allies removed, such as Cosatu's Gauteng chairperson, Phutas Tseki".

Actually, Cde Phutas is a member of the SACP Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee, along with myself among others.

Photographs appeared in newspapers of our PS Cde Jacob Mamabolo and Gauteng ANC leader Nomvula Mokonyane celebrating with Cde Phutas at the COSATU Gauteng Congress a couple of weeks ago after Phutas was re-elected. It seems that the Mail and Guardian staff does not read newspapers.

The whole article is a lie. If the reporters had read yesterday's "New Age" article headlined "Retain Cosatu leadership", also posted on the CU, they would have seen that:

*"Newly-elected SA Communist Party (SACP) chairperson Senzeni
Zokwana openly campaigned for Cosatu's leadership to be retained
when the labour federation holds its national congress in
   Johannesburg next month."*

The response of the treacherous, oppositionist mass media of our country has been to mount a "big lie" campaign, in the hope that the biggest possible lie, like the biggest snowball, will take longer than smaller lies to melt away. In the face of manifest unity, the mass media pretend to see disunity.
