YCLSA POSITION ON THE PLANNED ANCYL PICKET AT LIMPOPO EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The Young Communist League of SA [uFasimba] notes with disappointment the
proposed picket by the ANCYL Limpopo at the Limpopo Department of Education
planned for Tuesday, 21 August. Whilst the Young Communist League recognizes
the ANCYL in Limpopo's right to mass demonstration, we appeal to the Youth
League and to young people in general to refrain from participating in any
action that serves only the interests of the ANCYL in Limpopo.

The YCLSA views the intended picket with scepticism especially since it is the
same ANCYL in Limpopo that stood by as the provincial government was looted and
until recently, was silent on the textbook saga. Calling on "learners" to
participate in the picket during normal school hours further demonstrate the
YCLSA suspicion of a ploy to destabilize education in Limpopo.

The Young Communist League appeals to young people, affected learners in
particular, to work with teachers, the Department of Education and civil
society formations in the province towards the speedy implementation of the
catch-up plan. "As YCLSA, we do not believe it is in the interest of the
learners to play political football at this stage, instead we must provide
every support to the learners" said Yershen Pillay, National Chairperson of the
YCLSA.

“We must categorically state that the “pass one, pass all” policy is outdated
and not in the interest of learners, their future and our country. The one
solution to this crisis is "to ensure that we all, including the ANCYL, support
the catch up programme and refrain from further destabilizing education in
Limpopo" Pillay said.

The YCLSA does not regard the proposed picket and the recent call for the
"stoning" of an MEC in the ANC led government as mutually exclusive, it
demonstrate the increase riotous behaviour that we see in the ANCYL in Limpopo.
The ANCYL must redirect its efforts towards the immediate goal of supporting
learners in Limpopo. The YCLSA also call on the ANCYL in Limpopo and any person
with information about the sabotaging of education in Limpopo to report such to
law enforcement agencies.
