SACP shocked by burning down of home of our Branch Secretary in Pholile near
Strand

On 06 September 2012 at 1am in the early hours of the morning the shack of an
SACP cadre, a Branch Secretary of Mxolisi Fatyela in Pholile near Strand was
torched and burnt to the ground.

This cowardly act was instigated and done by known DA members who have been
threatening to kill our Branch leadership for advocating for and defending the
interests of the poor and destitute in Pholile informal settlement. They have
obstructed the SACP from convening community meetings and now they have
escalated their criminality and used a petrol bomb to destroy his shack.

The SACP leadership in the District visited the area in the evening of 06
September 2012 to assess the damage and help rebuild the home of our Branch
Secretary.

The burning down of to ashes of his shack destroyed his humble livelihood and
his family’s assets including sewing machines that were a source of household
income.

As the SACP in the Brian Bunting we express our dismay at this cowardly act and
urge the police to arrest the perpetrators for arson with an intention to kill
and malicious destruction of property.

We demand that the police act swiftly to arrest these criminals and they must
rot in jail as this criminality does not have a place in our democracy.
