Young Communist League of South Africa Gauteng Province Supports the strike action at Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit Statement, 16 October 2012 The Young Communist League of South Africa in the province of Gauteng is deeply by class inequality including wage disparities in the City of Johannesburg entity Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT). While workers are affected by income inequalities and wage disparities that forced them to embark on strike action in the BRT the elitist groupings that the ANC warned against in its Morogoro Strategy and Tactics are enjoying themselves through deployments and tenders in the City of Johannesburg and in Gauteng province generally. Workers in BRT are also suffering disparities in retirement funds and employer contributions. As the YCLSA we support the work undertaken by the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) in trying to deal with these disparities. This includes engagements with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), negotiations and meetings with the Mayoral Committee representatives. We condemn the fact that the City of Johannesburg and Rea Vaya have been intransigent and nothing as a result could be reached. As the YCLSA we are fully behind the struggle by the workers, and together with SAMWU we shall work to ensure that workers achieve their immediate aims and their momentary interests are enforced.
