SADTU’s good luck message to the matric class of 2012 21 October 2012 The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union would like to wish the Matric Class of 2012, all the best as they begin their examinations on Monday. The matric certificate is the most crucial certificate in ones’ schooling life. This certificate, just like education, increases one’s chances of eradicating poverty. It is therefore crucial not only to the learners but to their families and the nation as well. As the current Matric class will be the fifth to write the National Curriculum Statement, we hope the teachers have gained enough experience which will see an improvement of the results in quantity in general and quality in particular. A quality pass widens one’s chances of better career choices. We would like to express our disappointment in the fact that the number of matrics writing critical subjects like Mathematics continues to be low. We urge government to put more resources in the teaching of critical subjects like languages and Mathematics because these are needed for the improvement of our country. We also urge teachers to encourage the learners to aim for a quality matric pass by doing critical subjects. We have confidence in our teachers and learners for the dedication and commitment we have observed in the spring classes in preparation for the final examinations.
