AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS YOUTH LEAGUE LIMPOPO PROVINCE 21 October 2012 Press statement for immediate release Well wishes for the 2012 Grade 12 Learners in their Examinations. 2012 has been an intricate year in Education, particularly in the Limpopo Province as learners were subjected to unjust experiences at Schools, inclusive of lack of educators. The determination as shown by both learners and dedicated teachers who did all beyond means of remuneration, made us believe that Education remains a centre stone to nurture a victorious nation, and which if not shielded may leave the country blind and astray, without children being torch bearers to lead us to the promised land were better life for all is a dominant phenomena. The ANCYL in Limpopo through cooperation with unions in the Education sector, learner Organization, COSAS to be precise, Civil society Organizations and finest University Graduates, in a wake of educational thorns penetrated the flesh of Learning in the Province of Limpopo, have at least ensured that extra classes are engaged upon, such that we keep the Limpopo Matric pass rate flying high. All these were done in explicit ignorance by the Limpopo Department of Education and Confident lying spree by the National Basic Education Department on the development and implementation of Catch Plan. Learners were mostly left in disarray and teachers being rudely told of the lack of intention by the Department to pay them on their days lost through embarking on extra classes. Motivated by Paulo Freire, in his document Pedagogy of Freedom, said: "To think correctly and to know that to teach is not merely to transfer knowledge is a demanding and difficult discipline, at times a burden that we have to carry with others, for others, and for ourselves. It is difficult because it demands constant vigilance over ourselves so as to avoid being simplistic, facile, and incoherent. It is difficult because we are not always sufficiently balanced to prevent legitimate anger from degenerating into the kind of rage that breeds false and erroneous thinking." The ANCYL in Limpopo commends those that visualizes the fruits which education can bear in our communities, and heed the call to entrench learning even without learner-teacher support material, for they know the impact of Education in the near future. The ANCYL Limpopo wishes to take this appropriate moment to forward our heartfelt well wishes to the Grade 12 Class of 2012, as they are to start with the Final Examination on the 22 October 2012. We wish to urge them to formulate group discussions and learning, such that with combined understanding they can bravely face the Question papers and emerge successful in the acquiring of their Senior Certificate and knocking at Institutions of Higher Learning, where the future of their creation of Economic Freedom awaits.
