*‘SABC board must resign or be dissolved’*** *Gaye Davis, Political Bureau, IOL, Johannesburg, 22 October 2012*Johannesburg - The SACP wants the SABC board to resign or be dissolved for failing to curb corruption and protect whistle-blowers, and for allowing “factional” anti-government coverage that demeans leaders, including President Jacob Zuma.
A memorandum of grievances was delivered to the SABC’s Auckland Park headquarters on Sunday by what the broadcaster said was a “handful” of SACP supporters.
Last month, IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi led a march to hand over a memorandum protesting against what his party said was bias against covering its events.
In its memorandum on Sunday, the SACP said that unless the SABC took “decisive and drastic action”, its mandate to meet a high standard of accuracy, fairness and impartiality would be under “serious and severe threat”.
It demanded that the SABC board “resign or be dissolved” for failing to deal with corruption or defend whistle-blowers.
