*SACP Statement on the DA’s Visit to Nkandla*

The SACP is peeved by the ongoing DA cheap publicity stunts and reckless attempts to score political points. The latest planned visit to Nkandla by the leader of the DA is nothing else but a continuation of cheap point scoring not through a political programme but by continuously insulting the person of the President, the office he holds and his family.

The SACP wishes to caution that Helen Zille must take personal responsibility, together with the DA, for any consequences arising out of such racist, insensitive and extremely provocative actions.Zille’s and the DA’s actions constitute and pose a very serious threat to the carefully constructed and negotiated reconciliation process and could unfortunately plunge our country into an abyss of racial divisions and tensions. Zille must stop behaving like a white madame who wants to patronisingly treat our democratic institutions as her private household!

The DA’s continued attack not just on the person but on our institutions of democracy as well, coupled by the DA's sneering and belittling attitude towards the President is not in the interest of democracy and national reconciliation. A right to hold a different view cannot ever be equal to downright insolence, disrespect and actions of clear racist patronage. Short-term political point scoring at the expense of rights of people is not equal to holding public officials accountable. The dignity of our President is not for sale.

The SACP urges Helen Zille, in the interest of national cohesion and unity to pull out of this dangerous publicity stunt. We call upon the community of eNkandla and all decent Soiuth Africans to do all they can to protect the dignity of the president and the Office he holds. The values of uBuntu cannot be sacrificed at the altar of political expediency on the back of what is clearly a racist and right wing agenda. It is time to defend the essence of our revolution from these political scoundrels parading as leaders. Our gains must not be taken for granted.
