*NUM strikes Aveng Grinaker-LTA***

The week-old strike action at the Aveng Grinaker-LTA, a construction company in Kwazulu-Natal, is continuing.

The workers demand a minimum wage of R4000 whilst the company offers a mere R15.40 per hour. On the basic increase, workers had put forward a demand for a 12% across the board whilst the company offers 8,5%.

"These are our demands and we are not movable on the current offers by the employer" says Bhekani Ngcobo, the NUM 's Regional coordinator in Kwazulu-Natal. Workers further demand a 21 day annual bonus whilst the employer offers 15 days.

"We are angry that this company pays R21,00 for a general worker per hour in the Eastern Cape and R23,00 per hour for the same worker in the Western Cape, whilst it decides to pay R12,03 per hour in our province" says Ngcobo.
