*2 January 2013*** *SACP Commemorates the Life and Times of Joe Slovo*The 6th of January 2013 marks the 18th anniversary of the passing away of Cde Joe Slovo.Joe Slovo held several leadership positions in the SACP, ANC and uMkhonto we Sizwe.
He served as SACP General Secretary from 1986 to 1991 and as SACP National Chairperson from 1991 till he succumbed to cancer in 1995. Cde Joe was also a member of the ANC NEC and commander of uMkhonto we Sizwe. He was known and well respected for his prolific ideological engagements including leading a presentation that saw the resolution of the deadlock during the negotiations for a democratic South Africa.
At the ANC's 49th Conference held in Mangaung in December 1994, Cde Joe Slovo was awarded the highest honour by the ANC, Isithwalandwe.
The SACP will once more hosts commemorative activities as part of the Joe Slovo month, which will kick-start as follows:
