Reminder: COSATU NW continues with its planned protest action against most expensive tollgate-Swartruggens plaza 25 January 2013 The Congress of South African Trade unions in the North West province is going ahead with the planned mass action against the most expensive toll gate in the country-Swartruggens, despite the hiccups experienced with the law enforcement officials in the past week over permission application. COSATU NW will be marching to the toll gate to demand answers on the memoranda submitted to the Department of Transport and SANRAL, to reduce the toll fees at the toll gate as it put a social burden to the poor people of the province and the country in general. The expensive tollgate also affects the international community who uses Swartruggens road. What COSATU NW have observed again is that the toll gate is putting a huge maintenance burden to the municipalities and the provincial department of roads as traffic which was not supposed to use municipal and provincial roads end up diverting to those roads to avoid this high toll fee. The expensive tollgate has a huge impact on deterioration of a number of provincial infrastructures on the basis that almost all the roads in the province are now having pot holes. COSATU NW will march to the toll gate on the 25 January 2013, and the march will start in the Swartruggens town to the toll gate starting from 12H00. All road user and the members of the community are welcomed to join the action. The march is has been approved and all workers, all motorists, business people please join us during this action. We are urging those who are not supporting our campaign, to consider to not using the road on the Friday.
