*Sadtu: Work to rule still going* * * *SAPA, News24, Johannesburg, 11 April 2013*The SA Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) is pleased with the conduct of members in their work-to-rule action, spokesperson Nomusa Cembi said on Thursday.
"Members are complying with the mandate of staying in class for only seven hours. No extra classes are given or additional duties being performed."
The protest would continue until a review next week, Cembi said.Sadtu members have been on a national go-slow since pupils returned from the Easter holiday on Tuesday.
The union is calling for the resignation of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and her director general Bobby Soobrayan.
Motshekga has bemoaned the union's insistence on her resignation, describing it as regrettable.
Sadtu has accused the department of failing to honour a collective agreement for an increase in the remuneration of markers of national examinations.
Motshekga's spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi disputed the claims, and said a flawed collective agreement entered into in 2011 had since been re-negotiated.
Teachers were also up in arms earlier this year when government proposed that education be declared an essential service, which would make it unlawful for teachers to strike.
