Not all that was anti-apartheid progressive
This short article demystifies a lie that all that was opposed to apartheid was necessarily progressive, like the lie that Helen ZIlle (daughter of a German family who has guts to call South Africans immigrants in their own country) was a struggle activist. As chief Albert Luthuli saw it in the South African Congress of Democrats (SACOD) and the Liberal Party (LP) were ‘the children of the Defiance campaign. But the twin processes of black unity and the radicalization symbolized y the Defiance Campaign were precisely the factors that exacerbated ideological differences among the whites and led to organizational fragmentation. For whites opposed to apartheid, the 1950s was the time to adjust themselves to a new political situation, including an increasingly vicious Nationalist Party (NP) government, a disbanded Communist Party and a more militant Congress Alliance. White radicals – who demanded full and immediate racial equality, to be achieved by extra parliamentary, means including a restructuring of the economy in a more or les socialist direction – debated the best means of pursuing the class struggle with or without the National Liberation Movement. Liberals meanwhile (Zille's camp), sought a reasonable middle course that would restrain the accesses of African and Afrikaner nationalism and allow the gradualist inevitability of economic development to restructure South Africa’s economy. As a result radical and liberal whites participated in two parallel streams of activity. So the was a failure among themselves to produce a single unified white anti-apartheid organization. Such claims of a monolithic entity of anti-apartheid as if some of them were not opposed to the system for their own selfish interests are disingenuous. More so is the assumption that all that was opposed to the system was inherently for the general good of the revolution of our people and our country. People should stop throwing their opposition to apartheid for cheap political points. All Zille can be as a German is a fascist Nazi setting up blacks on blacks and hated apartheid for narrow white radicalism that used and still use our people as parasites. How can it possibly be that immigrants like Zille and Mazibuko (a Swazi immigrant and an endowed Thatcherite) in a political party that came into being in the year 2000 dare say they liberated South Africa?
