It is conducted jointly by the African Centre for Cities at UCT and the Sustainable Livelihoods Foundation of South Africa. It aims to explore; - how civic society in Cape Town builds alliances and influence the political life of the city and; - how civic society collaborates with the public and private sectors to create and sustain good urban environments. It further seeks to map out Civic Society's participation in various local and city-wide events/protests/campaigns as a means of tracing civic society's collective advocacy, participation and, in effect, alliance building. These events will assist us in understanding how effective community and civic society mobilization is with regards to advocacy and alliance building.
