YCLSA Oupa Phasha Statement condemning the killing of a family by a boy 2 June 2013
The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) in the district of Oupa Phasha, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, has been shocked by and is searching for answers on what the material basis, drivers and motive for a young boy (14) who killed members of his family with an axe could be. Reportedly, the bloody carnage started on Thursday, 23 May 2013 at midnight when the boy from Barcelona in Etwatwa, Ekurhuleni, lit three red candles and prayed to his “satanic” masters. Then he took an axe and allegedly attacked his own family members, killing his mother (30), a three-month old baby who was later found by police in the bushes, his grandmother (58) and his brother (5) who died later at a hospital in Springs. The YCLSA conveys condolences to the members of the family who managed to escape and survived, relatives and friends and the community at large. We condemn these killings to the contempt is deserves. We want the matter to be dealt with in its entirety. We will be following the case closely. The mobilisation of our people based on idealist beliefs, one of them being Satanism, must be investigated thoroughly and their social impact analysed. If need be such things must be abolished once for all. We will discuss this within our structures and develop a progressive and revolutionary response including a consideration to go all out and shut down such Satanic “churches”.
