10 June 2013
The Cape Times on Monday, June 10, 2013 carried an opinion
piece by Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille under the title “Hooligans disrupt
progress: Speak out to help, not hinder”. In this piece de Lille accuses the
SACP and ANCYL of disrupting her community meetings in Phillipi and by so doing
being anti-progress.
The SACP in the Brian Bunting District dismisses her ranting as
foolish nonsense of a desperate person who has long lost credibility and
confidence of the poor due to inability to deliver. We are also not surprised
by the narrative that projects every civic action based on genuine demands of
the people as politically instigated by the SACP and ANC.
De Lille further calls on the leadership of the SACP and
ANCYL “to condemn these attacks with me and denounce intimidation tactics in
Cape Town.” Her suggestions and imagination of the SACP joining hands with her
is a clearest sign that she is suffering from infantile disorder! Her
government has repeatedly ignored the people leading to numerous protests and
she hopes we will defend her against the anger of the people at her failure to
provide decent services such as housing, water, electricity and sanitation.
This mayor has been treating the poor with disdain by
failing to provide houses to shackdwellers who suffer repeated blazing flames
and floods but despite this indictment on her government she claims in her
opinion piece that “I cannot think of no greater disregard for the poor than
robbing them of their platform to speak”. She has never responded with any
sustainable solution to the plethora of service delivery demands raised by
residents of eNkanini, Kanana, Imizamo Yethu, Mfuleni, Nomzamo etc.
She conveniently forgets that her administration has issued
an interdict to councillors not to hold any community meetings which denies
people “their platform to speak”.
As the SACP, we will continue to mobilise the people until
their genuine demands are met. We will not legitimize DA attempts to monopolise
community platforms to promote its lies of quality service delivery. The
so-called
“Know Your Community, Know Your Contractor” is nothing but a smokescreen for DA
propaganda of falsehood of “Know Your DA”.
The DA supports, promotes and defends the interests of big
business locally and abroad and does not care about the interests of the poor
and the introduction of the dehumanizing ‘portable’ bucket system and continued
neglect of the genuine demands of the people is a further confirmation of that
fact.
It is no surprise therefore that people are rising against the DA and further
reject the presence of the DA in working class communities!
Phantsi nge DA phantsi!
