DECLARATION OF YCLSA TISHA VANGA DISTRICT CONGRESS 19 June 2013
“Crush capitalism for a socialist society” The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) in Tisha Vanga district convened its District Congress on 15 June 2013, in Welkom (NUM regional offices). The congress was convened under the theme: “Crush capitalism for a socialist society” The congress received messages of support from the South African Communist Party (SACP) and South African Students’ Congress (SASCO). Congress also notes the absence of both the ANC and ANCYL despite being invited. We as delegates representing branches from across Tisha Vanga District, reaffirm our commitment to imbue a radical understanding of Marxist-Leninist ideology within our structures and among our members. This we shall do through a vigorous political campaign with the understanding that historical theory and political literature remain extremely relevant for members of the YCLSA and the youth as a whole. The YCLSA must always distinguish itself from other organisations and retain its moral fibre, especially its communist morality. We therefore call on all members of the YCLSA to always display exemplary leadership wherever they are. Emerging from this congress, the YCLSA commits itself to safeguard and improve its relationship with the South African Communist Party. Our relationship with the SACP is sacrosanct and among the many tasks the YCLSA has, is to look out for blind-spots of the Party thus correcting the Party, within internal structures, where we think it has erred. We are proud to be a youth wing of the SACP. Congress urges the membership of the YCLSA to henceforth be actively involved in all activities of both the Party and the YCLSA in mobilising the rest of society behind the ideology of Communism. We promise to defend the unity of the entire congress movement, including COSATU affiliates, which are under attack both from within our ranks and from the enemy forces in the form of the DA and AMCU. We will also strengthen and empower our Progressive Youth Alliance components (COSAS, SASCO, and ANCYL). In particular, we will assist SASCO at CUT Welkom campus to reclaim its rightful position at that campus. As branches of the YCLSA in Tisha Vanga district, we declare that we shall be hard at work to ensure that the ANC maintains its massive electoral support in the forthcoming 2014 general elections. We will work hard to construct a campaigning YCLSA. We will also continue with our four key campaigns – Chris Hani Inquest, Kabelo Thibedi ID Campaign, Joe Slovo Right to learn Campaign and Operation Khula Campaign. We commit to improve our public relation with the media. The political work that we will be doing beyond this congress shall be advocated in local media and receive massive media coverage. The YCLSA in Tisha Vanga is stronger and better today than before and all members of the YCLSA are expected to assist in building more YCLSA branches throughout the district. The congress elected the following comrades to lead the district until the next district congress: Secretary : Lesedinyana Rampeta Chairperson : Mamiki Setabela Deputy Secretary : Deliwe Mthombeni Deputy Chairperson : Sabelo Mgcotywa Treasurer : Duncan Linoko Congress also elected 15 other additional members in line with the constitution of the YCLSA to work together with these officials.
