*Declaration of YCLSA Free State Provincial Council*

*29 JUNE 2013, TishaVanga, NUM Regional Office*

We, delegates from all branches of the Young Communist League of South
Africa (YCLSA) in Free State, convened our provincial council on 29 June
2013 in Welkom, TishaVanga District, at the NUM Regional Office. The
Provincial Council received a warm message of support from the South
African Communist Party (SACP).

We convened this Provincial Council of the YCLSA in Free State during an
important month on our political calendar, a month in which the 1976
generation of South African youth and students made history by opposing the
oppressive education system. This month is also important to us as
delegates because it signifies the unity and gallantry spirit of young
people. We note the fact that this year marks the centenary of the adoption
of the 1913 Natives Land Act under which native working class black people
were forcibly removed from their land and their livestock confiscated by
colonisers.

All these milestones give us hope that the achievement of a socialist and
just society is inevitable. As delegates to this YCLSA Free State council,
we have noted with utter disgust the political onslaught aimed at
dismantling the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and entire congress
movement ahead of 2014 elections. The YCLSA Free State will in the near
future unveil a programme of action for youth mobilisation and potential
voters for the ANC. The YCLSA Free State will play a meaningful role in
society to ensure that the ANC retains its massive electoral support. We
strongly discourage our members from associating themselves with the
Economic Freedom Fighters.

As the YCLSA Free State we vow to reclaim our rightful position at
institutions of higher learning, particularly the UFS which remains
untransformed to date. YCLSA branches at institutions of higher learning
are expected to lead this process in the absence of a radical student
movement.

We also intend to swell the ranks of the Further Education and Training
College sector. The YCLSA Free State has a direct interest on how FETC are
run and governed.

The YCLSA Free State council proposed that a Youth Ministry that will
comprehensively deal with youth matters be established and council also
noted that the NYDA has not been attending to youth matters as expected. A
different approach is needed when attending to youth matters.

We congratulate the Provincial Secretary of the SACP in Free State (Bareng
Soke) for his recent election as a Deputy General-Secretary of NEHAWU. The
YCLSA Free State is proud of him!
