*Attack on ANC member* /during NUM Membership Recruitment Rally/ *at Wonderkop Stadium, Marikana*The African National Congress in the North West condemns with disdain the barbaric attack of Cde Andrew Matlapeng Nkomo who was attending the National Union of Mine Workers (NUM) recruitment rally yesterday, the 21st July 2013 at Wonderkop Stadium. Cde Nkomo was allegedly attacked by unidentified hooligans at Nkaneng Informal Settlement.
Cde Nkomo is a member of the ANC and a devoted volunteer from Segwela Informal Settlement.
We further refute reports that Cde Nkomo has died.He, however sustained serious injuries on his neck and head but is receiving treatment at home.We can confirm that he was discharged this morning, the 22nd July 2013 from Brits Hospital.
The leadership of the ANC led by the Provincial Chairperson, Cde Supra Mahumapelo, PEC members and the Regional leadership of the ANC will visit him on Thursday, 25th July 2013.The details of the visit will be released later.The ANC wishes him a speedy recovery.
The ANC is making a clarion call to all affected parties to desist from any acts of provocation, violence and intimidation and to respect the Marikana Peace Accord signed on the 25th of February 2013.
We further appeal to those with information leading to the arrest of these perpetrators to contact the police. The ANC will stand against any form of violence and crime against any member of the society regardless of their political persuasion.
