*This country needs some real leaders, not real lechers, Vavi*** *Letters, The Times, Johannesburg, 31 July 2013*Would Zwelenzima Vavi kindly explain exactly what his family is celebrating ("Vavi dodges one bullet", yesterday)?
Whether the sexual act Vavi has admitted to was consensual, as he claims, or forced upon the woman is not the point. What he did is disgraceful. He is a married man (his wife gave birth to twins three days after this encounter took place), and he is an employer who took sexual advantage of an employee. No matter how one reads the situation, this is what he did.
He is the leader and public face of a huge and powerful organisation whose members look to him for guidance in their working lives.
What kind of leadership can be given by a man who does not control his own impulses?
Vavi might claim he is "not one of the generation of cowards", but he is a shameless example of corrupt and self-serving leadership. - *Jean Isserow, by e-mail*

Never mind any disgraceful behaviour he might have been guilty of doing. Hear what he thinks of you, South Africa: "We all do these things in dark corners."
