SACTWU Media Release, 15 August 2013 SACTWU clothing industry wage strike ballot daily update: SACTWU reaches 40 000 strike ballot target The COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU) set itself a target to strike-ballot 40 000 clothing workers over a three week period, in regard to our unresolved wage negotiations in the clothing industry. We have now reached our target: as at lunchtime today, 40 026 workers were balloted in 391 clothing factories nationally. Strike ballot counting commenced in our Western Cape Region yesterday (we have 4 Regions and one Head Office Membership Project). Counting has this morning commenced in our Gauteng Region, is underway in our Eastern Cape Region, and will commence in our KZN Region and Head Office Project tomorrow. Some results are available for our Western Cape Region already: of the 8438 votes counted to date, 85.72% are in favour of strike action. Our next update will be tomorrow after lunch-time.
