***YCLSA Eastern Cape PEC Statement on Syria and WSU*

**The Young Communist League of South Africa [Ufasimba] Eastern Cape
Province convened its 3rd Plenary Session of the 3rd Provincial Congress
Provincial Committee Meeting on the 31st August 2013 at South African
Communist Party Offices, in Bisho.

The 3rd Plenary session was convened with the purpose to engage on
political and organizational issues that affects the working class and the
poor in the province, National and abroad. The PEC was also used to report
back on the National Council and to prepare for the incoming organizational
programmes and as well as the 2014 National General Elections.

The 3rd Provincial Committee Meeting was addressed by the SACP Deputy
Provincial Secretary, Cde Ndumiso Rooiland, who addressed us on the current
political situation facing the working class and the need to strengthen the
struggle for socialism. He further stressed the need to expose all ills of
capitalism all over the world.

The 3rd Plenary session was convened just on the last day of the women’s
moth. We noted that as the province we are highly affected by gender based
violence. We welcome the life sentence given to the culprit that was
sentenced by the Mtata High court last week. As the YCLSA we commit to
continue to struggle against patriarchy and any form of gender based
violence.

*INTERNATIONAL*

**The 3rd Provincial Committee engaged on the international situation and
noted the current situation which is characterized by the crises of the
capitalist system. We note the so called friends of Syria that are planning
to attack Syria led by President Bashar al-Assad. The reality is that this
is part of a regime change agenda. The other reality is that Israel used
chemical weapons to destroy the Palestinians and the United Nations was
silent. Even America lied and said there are weapons of mass destruction
in Iraq, until now they have not proved it. We cannot allow imperialists to
lie to us; this is nothing else but another regime change ploy.

There is a need to transform the United Nations, because the manner in
which it is dominating on the affairs of other countries indeed is a
confirmation of a greater need for its transformation. We encourage the
collaboration and unity of the left forces in the world so as to intensify
the struggle against capitalism and its puppets.

*****WSU STALEMATE*

The Provincial Committee has deliberated on Walter Sisulu University crisis
extensively. First and foremost the Provincial Committee understand that
the Walter Sisulu University problems are historical so they cannot just be
solved overnight and we are in a wage negotiations season therefore a
strong leadership and tolerance on parties involved on negotiations is
critical. Workers have a right to fight for a better wages, therefore we
fully support the workers demands of 6-10 % as 4,2 % offer by the
Institution is just an insult to workers taking into consideration
inflation rate, interest rates and other factors.

We applaud and support the Intervention by the Alliance in the Province of
trying to resolve the challenges facing the University working together
with the Department of Higher Education and Training with the sole purpose
to find an amicable solution. We support the appointment of mediator to
mediate on the negotiation process. Amicable solutions must be found and it
must be in the interests of the students from working class and the poor
families.

We further condemn and dismiss with contempt it deserves all the empty
opportunistic populist rhetoric, anti-communists and anti- Cde Blade
Nzimande stance by some opportunists who are riding at the challenges
facing the Walter Sisulu University through attacking the South African
Communist Party and its General Secretary. Part of the core challenges
facing Walter Sisulu University is corruption. Unfortunately SACP and its
leadership are against corruption.

Furthermore this is not a Socialist South Africa where Cde Blade Nzimande
is a President, if they think so, it’s so unfortunate, this is not a
Socialist Republic, and this is a capitalist society. As Ufasimba we view
this empty opportunistic populist rhetoric, anti-communists and anti- Cde
Blade Nzimande as very unfortunate as those who do this are insulting with
the view to appease capitalists and their running dogs.

We know that the Minister of Higher Education and Training has already
extended hands on the issue of WSU and we have a full confidence that
Minister Nzimande will never disappoint the people of the Eastern Cape. We
further call all relevant stakeholders to work with the Department of
Higher Education and Training to collectively resolve the challenges facing
the Students and Workers in WSU. We believe that Minister Nzimande will
leave no stone unturned on corrupt elements that are delaying the progress
made so far in the Walter Sisulu University.

As the Young Communist League of South Africa, we will exact more pressure
in the Office of the Minister of Higher Education and Training to visit the
Institution. We further call the Office of the Minister of Higher Education
and Training to look at challenges facing the FET Colleges in the Province
in particular those under administration.

***ANC CONFERENCE AND APPOINTMENT OF SACP CHAIRPESON AS EASTERN CAPE
LEGISLATURE CHIEF WHIP*

The Provincial Committee welcomed the African National Congress provincial
conference outcomes, which was held at Port Elizabeth. The Provincial
Committee congratulates the newly elected leadership of the ANC and wishes
the collective well in its new responsibilities. We hope that the newly
elected Provincial Executive Committee as led by Cde Phumulo Musualle will
continue with its mammoth task of uniting the province and fostering unity
and cohesion.

We further join the South African Communist Party in the Province by
congratulating our SACP Provincial Chairperson for his appointment as a
Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the Eastern Cape Legislature. We commit
to offer all the necessary revolutionary assistance to Cde Mzoleli Mrara on
his new responsibilities.

*IN CONCLUSION*

We are the youth wing of the South African Communist Party, which is
struggling for socialism ultimately, communism which enjoys political and
ideological guidance from the South African Communist Party, hence our
slogan: “Socialism in Our Lifetime”.

We are devoted to the interests of all young people (youth development) and
dedicated to the revolutionary cause of the working class of our country
and the world.

We are intolerant to injustices including all tactical manoeuvres of
capitalism. The only way we will get freedom for ourselves is to identify
ourselves with every oppressed people in the world. We are brothers to the
people of Brazil, Venezuela, Haiti, and Cuba etc. Therefore the struggle
for the freedom in Palestine is ours too.

Issued by the Provincial Executive Committee.
